Step 1 - TDLR & Driver Ed Registration!
First, you need to register with the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) for the parent-taught program guide. This is a basic form you can fill out online. The Texas TDLR charges a $20 state fee for enrollment in parent taught driver education, and they will email you a "Program Guide" containing information about Texas parent taught drivers ed. You are ready to get started!
Next, register for the America's Drivers Ed Online Driver Education course. For a one-time fee of $79, you have everything you need for the Texas Learner License (permit) and Driver License!

Step 2 - Online Lessons & Online Exam!
Complete the first 6 hours of classroom lessons online as quickly as 3 days, or two hours per day.
Then you will take some permit practice quizzes to help get you ready for the Texas Learner License exam. You can take these practice quizzes as much as you would like.
Next you will take the official Texas Learner License Exam right on our website! That's right, take the test from home! There is NOT another written test at the Texas DPS location.

Step 3 - Learner License & Driving Lessons
After passing the exam, we will quickly email you the official Texas Driver Education certificate, the DE-964. Then visit your local DPS location to present the paperwork, do an eye check and take a picture for your official Texas Learner License!
After obtaining a Texas Learner License, you will complete the remaining classroom hours along with driving lessons. Our driving lessons tell the parent EXACTLY what to do in the vehicle. Easy!
The remaining coursework does NOT have an expiration. Take as long as you need! In Texas, a student can complete parent-taught until the age of 24.

Step 4 - Texas Driver License!
After completing all 32 classroom & 44 driving hours of the best online driver education available, you are ready to get the Texas Driver License! (at least 16 years old and held permit for 6 months)
We will email you another Texas driver education certificate of completion (DE-964) for the Driver License, but you need to schedule a driving test with a DPS location, or a local approved driving school.
You will also have to complete a DPS required video at the Impact Texas Teen Drivers website. (we will remind you of this later)
Bring all your paperwork to your local DPS location, pass the driving exam, and receive your Texas Provisional Driver License!!
